The Three Planes of Anaghā Lakṣmī: From Satchitānanda to the Plane of Ignorance

To meditate on Anaghā Lakṣmī, the sinless and immaculate Shakti of Lord Dattatreya, is to meditate on the very architecture of existence. She is not merely a deity who blesses the home with auspiciousness; she is the tri-layered radiance of creation itself, the subtle bridge through which the infinite condenses into form. The Śrīpāda Śrīvallabha Charitāmṛtam repeatedly hints at these layered realities. In Chapter 43, it is revealed that Śrīpāda’s Māyā is none other than Anaghā Lakṣmī Herself, who manifests as Vaishnavi Māyā yet remains untouched, nirdoṣa, beyond all karmic stain. Her presence spans the highest transcendental plane, the luminous middle worlds, and the dense karmic plane where humans struggle. As a devotee of Dattatreya and Anaghā Lakṣmī, I have come to see Her as the feminine map of awakening—the one who guides the seeker from forgetfulness to freedom. The Nath sages, especially Śrīpāda and Nṛsiṃha Sarasvatī, often operate from these three planes simultaneously, but we experience them one layer at a time. Below is a Shakti-oriented understanding of the Three Planes of Anaghā Lakṣmī.

Anaghā Lakṣmī depicted across three divine planes, from cosmic radiance to earthly guidance, in a photorealistic triptych.

1. The Pāra State — Her Satchitānanda Radiance Beyond Form

The highest level of Anaghā Lakṣmī is the pāra daśā—the transcendental, unmanifested state. This is the level the Charitāmṛtam describes whenever Śrīpāda appears in His infinite cosmic form, radiant like a thousand suns, and when saints fall into trance upon merely thinking of Him.

In this state, Anaghā Lakṣmī is not a goddess with form or attributes. She is:

  • Sat — Pure existence
  • Chit — Infinite awareness
  • Ānanda — Causeless bliss

This is the plane hinted at when it is said that Śrīpāda’s divine Shakti is inaccessible to even high yogis unless He wills it. In this state, She exists as the Self-illumined Consciousness that gives rise to both Dattatreya and to the worlds He governs.

From the standpoint of Shakti-Upāsanā, this is the plane where Mahā Tripurasundarī, Parāśakti, and Anaghā Lakṣmī dissolve into each other. There is no difference between Devi as the Mother of the Universe and Devi as the consort of Datta.

For a devotee, the pāra plane is experienced in rare flashes—moments when chanting “Śrī Datta Jai Datta” or the Anaghā Kavach melts the boundaries of identity. It is not seen with the eyes; it is felt as a profound cessation of the personal self.

This is the true home of Anaghā Lakṣmī. Everything else is an echo.

2. The Heavenly Consciousness — The Mahar Loka of the Datta Tradition

Below the pāra state is the mahar loka, a luminous intermediary world described vividly in the Charitāmṛtam. It is here that Śrīpāda’s divine play (līlā) is eternally active and where celestial beings perform Anaghā Yoga.

In Chapter 43, Bhaskara Shastri speaks of Anaghā Lakṣmī as the supreme Vidyā and reveals that Devas and Rishis worship Her to purify themselves before attaining the Datta state. This is the realm where:

  • Anaghā Lakṣmī appears in Her resplendent form
  • She is worshipped through the Anaghā Vrata
  • Dattatreya grants His subtle teachings to Devas, Siddhas, and liberated souls

This middle plane is extremely important for Shakti sādhakas. It is the level where the Goddess becomes approachable yet immeasurably divine, where Her beauty, Her power, and Her compassion can all be directly felt.

From this plane, She inspires visions, dreams, intuitive messages, and inner transformations. The Nath tradition calls this the level where the Guru’s Shakti operates most actively, reshaping the karma of disciples.

When a Datta devotee experiences sudden clarity, or a spontaneous inner instruction, or a surge of unconditional love—this is Anaghā Lakṣmī touching them from the mahar loka.

This plane is also the source of the Anaghā Ashṭa Siddhis and the blessings of fearlessness, purity, and protection described in the Charitāmṛtam.
Here the Goddess is divine, radiant, compassionate—yet still distinct from the seeker.

She is the Mother who watches.

3. The Individual / Intermediary Level — Where She Walks With the Seeker

The third level is the one in which we live—the plane of ignorance, dense with karma, doubt, and suffering. Yet, this is precisely where Anaghā Lakṣmī becomes the most intimate.

In the Charitāmṛtam, She appears repeatedly in earthly form:

  • Blessing households
  • Protecting devotees from calamities
  • Removing ancestral difficulties
  • Guiding seekers inwardly during their spiritual misunderstandings

She is the Shakti who steps down to walk beside us, even when we are immersed in confusion.

This is the level where:

  • Our chanting
  • Our pujas
  • Our devotion
  • Our longing
  • Our surrender

…begin to transform our karmic field.

On this plane, Anaghā Lakṣmī is deeply personal. For a Datta devotee, She becomes the soft whisper that steadies the mind during chaos. She becomes the warmth in the heart that appears unexpectedly during meditation.

The Charitāmṛtam shows Her as the active force who removes the stains of the jīva, the one who takes on the burden of our karmas so that we can rise toward the mahar loka and ultimately merge into Her pāra state.

Here She is:

  • Teacher
  • Healer
  • Protector
  • Mother
  • Inner Flame

This is the level where She prepares us for the higher worlds. Every act of devotion, even a simple “Jaya Anaghā,” becomes a step upward.

The Journey Through the Three Planes

Ultimately, the three planes of Anaghā Lakṣmī are not separate realms—they are layers of awakening.

  • The individual level helps us clean our vessel.
  • The mahar loka lifts us into divine understanding.
  • The pāra state dissolves us into Her infinite radiance.

This is the path of Shakti returning to Shakti, of the soul returning to its source through the grace of Anaghā Lakṣmī and Dattatreya.

For a devotee, this journey is not abstract. It is deeply personal, emotional, intimate. It is the slow burning away of the ego until only Her light remains.
